PTO Lunch Hour: Keeping Eliot Street Safe

Description

The Kid Zone on Eliot St. is a two-block stretch that includes the Eliot Playground, the Brookline Rec Center, and Hayes School. Neighborhood children are at risk due to:

  • Speeding: Over 47% of cars in the Kid Zone exceed the 20 mph limit
  • Accidents: Over 75% of reported accidents along the whole stretch of Eliot St. occur in the Kid Zone
  • Congestion: During peak times, parking on both sides of the street in the Kid Zone make a narrow passage for cars and leave no room for a safe route to the park.

There are safe and economical solutions to making the Kid Zone safer. The Town of Brookline will undertake them if the community shows its support. You can help.
