B-PEN’s Parent Advisory Committee Welcomes New Members

Brookline Parent Education Network (B-PEN) helps guide parents through common social, emotional, and developmental challenges affecting today’s teens and pre-teens. Our Parent Advisory Committee helps us identify the current pressing issues affecting Brookline youth and brainstorm ideas for useful information on topics ranging from setting limits and healthy relationships to screen use and alcohol experimentation. This lively volunteer group, composed of a wide range of BHS and middle school parents, meets roughly four times a year to assist in planning parent and community education materials and events. Brookline Arts Center Fall Classes

The Brookline Arts Center is excited to share a variety of creative opportunities and an outlet for arts education this fall! Join us for both virtual and in-person classes for children and teens, as well as our Indigenous Peoples' Day and Veterans' Day vacation day programs for students of all ages. Financial aid is available for all classes.
Japanese Math Academy

Japanese Math Academy is a unique after-school math enrichment program run by a Lincoln/BHS family. Our time-tested Japanese method helps K-8 students at every level accelerate learning at a comfortable speed and get ahead of the class. We offer both In-Person and Zoom classes. Fall registration is open through October 8th. If you’re wondering where your students are after a year of online learning, we are happy to evaluate them with no commitment. Talking About Marijuana from B-PEN (Brookline Parent Education Network)

With new dispensaries opening in Brookline, B-PEN urges parents to be vigilant about underage marijuana use. We are hearing anecdotally that use is up among younger and younger teens, so now is a good time to continue the conversation about family expectations. The Marijuana page of www.B-PEN.org offers helpful information, including “Ten Talking Points for Discussing Marijuana with Our Kids”, an excellent video made by BHS Peer Leaders, and a list of online resources.

BHS Basketball Summer Clinics

Registration is open for both the BHS Boys and Girls summer basketball clinics. Both clinics will take place from Monday 6/28 to Thursday 7/01, with players currently in grades 3 through 5 going from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and players in grades 6 through 8 going from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Further details and more information are available on the Brookline Basketball website. Capacity is limited (that's just the world we live in).
B-PEN Parent Update on “Strategies & Resources for the Transitions Ahead”

The B-PEN (Brookline Parent Education Network) Parent Update is now available summarizing key information from Jon Mattleman's parent and caregiver presentation “Light at the End of the Tunnel – Strategies & Resources for the Transitions Ahead.” It addresses how we can manage anxiety, optimize resilience, and keep our families in balance as COVID-19 restrictions relax and we resume some semblance of normalcy.
